We installed 2K Pro as a separate system on the same drive- no partition- it was a mistake, I wanted it done as an upgrade. Now I can't upgrade because 2K is installed. How can I remove 2k so that I can upgrade 98. Other threads don't seem to give me the info I need. ( the one that came close didn't have a solution). Some of the simple things can get so complicated.

The better way to install Windows 2000 is not through
the upgrade of an existing OS but by doing a new, or
clean, install. The "simple" approach is to wipe off
the partition.

As Tritium said, upgrading from Win98 to Win2000
is not recommended. You're likely to get lots of
weird and wonderful problems.

Removing Win2000 is easy, if you supply sufficient
information.
- Where exactly is Win98 installed?
- Where exactly is Win2000 installed?
- Is Win2000 installed on a drive other than C:?
- Is this drive a primary or a logical drive?
(fdisk.exe will tell you)
- Is this drive a FAT or an NTFS partition?
(fdisk.exe will tell you)

Greetings --

Normally, assuming Win9x is installed to the C: drive, you'd just
have to boot from your Win98/Me startup diskette, type "SYS C:." Then
delete C:\NTLDR, C:\NTDETECT.COM, C:\BOOT.INI, C:\BOOTSEC.DOS, and
C:\PAGEFILE.SYS. Delete or reformat the Win2K directory/partition, as
applicable. Remove the startup diskette and reboot.

( the one that came close didn't have a solution). Some of the simple
