dual boot

I had a comp. running win xp home. i installed a second
hard drive and then tried to install win 2000 prof. on
the 2nd hd. The graphical (2nd) setup started but then it
gave me messages that no hardware was recognized and the
setup aborted. When i tired to restart the comp. on the
boot screen it showed both o/s but if I chose win2000 it
went through the setup again which didnt work. If i chose
xp it gave me an error message missing file. Rgit now i
would be greatful just to switch back to xp without
losing the stuff on my first HD.
Thank You

Actually I had a problem. When I tried to run the recovery
console it asked me for an administrator password. This is
my home computer and I don't think I ever set one.

You might try replacing ntdetect.com and ntldr (in the root of the system
partition) from the XP CD-Rom
