Dual boot on Windows XP Pro

Guest

I originally had a dual boot with Win98 on C drive and Windows XP on D drive
(same harddrive). However, I had to reinstall Win98 and now I do not have a
choice at boot up. It goes directly to Win98.
The D drive is still there.
I no longer need Win98 and would prefer to delete it while allowing Windows
XP to boot up. Any suggestions?
If not how can I get back to where I am asked which system I want at boot up?

Thank you.

sounds like the re-install messed-up your MBR (master boot record)

Here is what I would do:

re-install XP over the old installation (i.e. on your D drive) this will fix
the boot record. Than it is not difficult to remove 98 from XP just search it
on google and you should be able to figure it out.

You could do a bunch of other things like try the fixmbr command from the
winXP CD but that get more complicated.

You could also always just (from XP) format your c drive where 98 resides
and set your D drive to be your C drive.

Also a hint, from XP it is easy to manage your boot up sequence just go to:
system properties->advanced->startup and recovery->settings

Hi,

You overwrote the boot loader with Win98's boot code. Boot the WinXP CD,
load the Recovery Console. Run fixboot from the command prompt.
