drives don't load

After i connected an audio device the computer frooze. After a reboot my cd and dvd rom drives didn't appear on my system I have to go into the device manager and hit the scan for new harware button then they appear and everything works fine until i shutdown and have to do the instance all over again. what can i do to stop this small but annoying problem..
