DPI Setting for Monitor

Under "Display Properties - Settings - Advanced", I can set the "DPI".
1. Does this increase the DPI of the images displayed on the monitor?
2. Does it do it for everything?
3. Why is 96 DPI listed as "normal"?
4. Parts of an Internet page overlap other parts. Can this be cured?
5. Am I just back where I started if I increase both the screen resolution
and the DPI?
