you care enough to impose your opinion on others and denegrate them if they
choose not to agree. yep, real caring there.

The phone dialer, for some reason, has always been 'well hidden' by
Microsoft. Even in Vista you have to use the Run or command prompt to open
it, although the interface is far better in Vista than XP.
Phone Dialer just dials... it is just like a phone list book that can dial
the number... then you need to pick up the phone to talk.
This is not what Jack wants

Thanks, John. I didn't know that dialer did anything except dial, having
never used it.
Well, it stores phone numbers too :)

No! I know people who don't question what I claim and say otherwise. They
speak for themselves. We know who you are because we feel differently. ;)

And your VOIP provider is...?

Jack said:
I actually have two ISPs. One is an Earthlink dial-up and the other is
Comcast. I mainly use my Earthlink email address, and use it over the
Comcast cable. The dial-up is a back up, which has become essentially
non-viable since switching to VOIP. So, the pc modem is plugged into the
VOIP line. I don't know if Windows Live Messenger is installed.

I tried Dialer, and it fails to see a connection. I reckon I'll see Start
|
Help & Support | To configure a telephony service provider.

Are you a (Earthlink) dial-up subscriber? Does the same "phone line" plug
into your PC? Do you have, e.g., Windows Live Messenger installed? Also
see Start | Help & Support | To configure a telephony service provider.

The wrongs of top posting is starkly demonstrated by this interchange of
posts because the actual full conversation is next to impossible to follow.
If both protagonists had followed the convention and bottom posted, the
conversation would have flowed logically. It would not flow logically if
both had top posted because the responses would be read before the points
they addressed.

Robear,
And your VOIP provider is...?<

With a follow-up question such as that, you must have some insightful
analysis awaiting --- it is currently provided by Earthlink (via the Comcast
cable).

Who cares?

Well mentally challenged people wouldn't care. But intelligent people like
to follow conversations and also don't make out of the blue clueless
comments. Sorry was that over your head?

I don't think Bill was stating the main issue was top posting, but the
way MS clients insert a delimiter incorrectly when someone posts their
reply above the quote and then a sig below the reply.

When a proper newsreader sees a delimiter as it was designed, everything
below the delimiter is removed, which blows away all the prior content.
Delimiters are ONLY to be used when bottom posting. That was the way
it was designed. When I top post (in email), my mail client
(Thunderbird), doesn't insert a delimiter above the sig. It only
inserts the delimiter when the sig is at the bottom, which is the
correct way it should be done.

If users of MS clients used Quotefix (which resolves the bug) as Bill
mentioned, the content below a sig would remain intact.

Only one MVP I know of took the issue into consideration and changed
their posting style. As most have said here, they don't care whether
the incorrect insertion of the delimiter causes problems or not. THAT
is selfish, especially when they take it personally rather than
realizing the issue is with the mail client they use, and taking the
proper steps to correct it.

Robear,
Why aren't you using Comcast VOIP?<
I had a feeling you'd ask that question -- there are two phone lines
involved, and I'm assessing whether to put one of them back on a land line
(for ISP back up -- plus, fax works better on land lines). However, there
is a question about whether the two-line phones will have a problem with one
line on VOIP. BTW, Earthlink, IMHO, has better consumer support.

Contact Earthlink Support. (Why aren't you using Comcast VOIP? You're
already paying for cable internet, adding VOIP wouldn't cost that much more
per month.)

What is VOIP?
