Whenever I open any document I receive the error message "The Document
cannot be opened" error box. This is immediately followed by another which
reads "Visual Basic Environment cannot be initialized." This happens with
any document, including simply opening Word and it tries to open a new,
blank document.

I done a Detect and Repair of MS Office Small Business, but the errors
persist.

Rebooting the computer solves the problem for a while, and then the errors
begin popping up again.

Not sure .... but this seems to occur after receiving Svhost.exe error.

What's the exact error? Have you reviewed your event logs for
errors/warnings?

The exact error includes references to PALM app add-ins and PDF addin ins.

Not sure where to find the event log you refer to.

Is there a reason a Visual Basic script is trying to run whenever you open a
document?

The fact that VB is trying to run whenever you open a document combined with
an SVChost error suggests to me that you very likely have a Word macro
virus.

Update your virus signatures and do a full and complete virus scan.

One way:
Start | run. Type

eventvwr <enter>

Not that I know of. Although, doesn't VB process these "template" links to
Palm Apps and PDF maker. I create a lot of PDF files from WORD using Acrobat
6.

Yes, I was thinking that too, so...
Update your virus signatures and do a full and complete virus scan.

I did that and no viruses were found.

Wow. I check the event log and was surprised to see HUNDREDS of entries.
Most of them were "The driver detected a controller error on
/device\hardrive0\DRO.

Does this indicate a faulty hard drive?
