Dissapearance of Java functionality..

Since yesterday one of my PC's (WinXP-Pro) seems to have lost all Java
capability.
Whenever there is a button (or anything similar) on a site that should run a
Java applet or script it just seems to be dead when clicked.
I have no clue what could have caused this as I have not installed anything
or made any other changes to the system.
has anyone here got any pointers as to what might have caused this?

Check your internet security settings. It may have Java disabled.
