Hi please help me as I am no expert. I have been running version 6 of java
update5, for a period of time and everything was running ok. There is a site
that I regularly visit and it has a chat page, again that i have had no
problems with. Then out of the blue I try and get into this chat page and I
get this message with the heading "Java Plug in Fatal Error" that says
several Java machines running in the same process caused an error.
I have looked at all the threads showing the same kind of symptoms and I
think I have tried everything that has been sugested. I have tried the
following.
1. Changing my home page from msn to my default page which is my internet
provider.
2. Un-installed and re-installed(twice) the sun java 6.0
3. Bought a registry cleaner (Reg Cure) that found nearly 1000 problems that
have now been cleared.
4. Un-installed sun java 6.0 and installed java 5.0 update 15.
5. Checking and un-checking the boxes in Internet options under the advance
tab where it says Disable script debugging(Internet Explorer) and Didable
script debugging(Other)
Still I am getting the same message. I am running on Windows xp if that is
of any help

Since this was out of the blue, is it possible that there's something
wrong with that Web page? What is the Web page (so that others can test
it)?

I don't see how changing your home page would have any effect with
regard to your Java issue.

2. Un-installed and re-installed(twice) the sun java 6.0

Did you close all running programs to do this? Did you reboot?

3. Bought a registry cleaner (Reg Cure) that found nearly 1000
problems that have now been cleared.

Ugh! Not a good move. Registry "cleaners" should be avoided. And RegCure
has a shady past. I hope you didn't do any damage by running it.

4. Un-installed sun java 6.0 and installed java 5.0 update 15.

Not recommended because of security issues. What source was your
download for Version 6, Update 5? It's best to download the standalone
(offline) installer:

When given the option to download and install a third-party program
(Google toolbar?), I'd pass (but that's just me).

Once it's installed, click on this link to verify:

If it was installed correctly and you still can't chat on that
particular site, your issue is not Java-related.

Thank you Daave for your reply. Ok so work this out. Instead of using IE as
my browser. I signed in with MSN and guess what, I do not get any error
messages and I can go straight into the site and chat room that I was having
problems with. So there must be some kind of conflict issue between IE and
jave.
In answer to some of the questions that you asked
Reg cleaner has been a great help as my pc has now stopped crashing and
freezing up and is running a lot faster. (Guess i'm the lucky one)
Everytime that I un-installed and re-installed I closed all running
programmes and re-booted my pc.
I have since re-installed Java 6 update 5 and again when I come on here via
IE and go to the test page, I'm told that there is a fatal plug-in error and
that several Java machines running in the same process caused an error.
Anyway if you or anyone else has any ideas as to the problem, please get
back to me.

leave the pertinent info you are replying to. Otherwise, it's confusing,
especially for others who want to follow the thread.

Ok so work this out. Instead of using

I am not familiar with the MSN browser. My guess is you need to enable
popups in IE (at least for that one site) in order for it to work. When
I went to http://webmessenger.msn.com/ , I got the following:

You had mentioned RegCure in your other post. As I said, you're taking
unnecessary chances. Registry cleaners do not speed up anything; if your
system is running better, it is certainly due to other maintenance you
performed (such as deleting temp files). For a good discussion on this,

I glanced at it, and it looks like you might want to try the following:

In Internet Explorer go to Tools>Manage Add-ons>Enable or Disable
addons> Disable "Windows Live Sign-in Helper"

Make sure all versions are uninstalled and reinstall latest.
Also, that in IE "addons" only one listed.

Fix for some:
"WindowsLive Toolbar Helper" or other Live addon - disable and then re-enable.
If you find "Live" related - report it under the "report a problem" option.
