Display adapter is non existent

I just finished loading XP Pro. I have an ATI 9800 graphics card. When the
OS loaded it did not load any drivers for the ATI. However, it did load some
form of non plug and play type of adapter that does not give the option to
update the drivers, etc. You guessed it....that generic piece of *$#t would
not allow me to load my ATI drivers. The only option available was to
disable the generic concoction and restart. The only problem is that when I
booted back up my screen is black. It displays the Windows logo while
loading, afterwards blank screen.

I've tried everything under the sun to get in there and enable the display,
no luck.....none at all. PLEASE help.

Many thanks in advance, Rob.

Boot up in safe mode, try to establish you have drivers
and that the ATI card is running properly from the device
manager. Try to do a driver update, not from a disk
uncheck all to get an update from microsoft.

If it's like my scenario...I did the exact same thing, Safe mode doesn't work
either. There's no display adapter as far as windows can tell since we
legitimately disabled the only one (as stupid as it sounds). I still haven't
found resolution yet.

Pull the video card and swap in a new one. Let Windows find it and
install it. Then switch to vga mode, uninstall the temporary one and
install the proper one.
