Disk On Module IDE problem

I built an XPE image that run on a normal Hard Disk, It's also possible to
copy it on another disk without problem, but:

when I copy the post-fba image to any DOM the system doesn't start and I
found a blue screen with an IRQL NOT EQUAL OR LESS THAN error

The only way to use the DOM was to copy the pre-fba image and restart the
system

Anyone knows why?

Thanks in advance

The registry in the post-FBA image has been setup for the hard drive device.
The DOM is a different device, and it will fail since it doesn't match up
with the hard drive information. Running FBA on the DOM is the recommended
solution.

Sorry for the previous post, I had a problem with my news-reader.

I also tryied to run the pre-fba image on the DOM, then copy that one on
another DOM (twin of the first one) with two partitions but I got the same
error message.

I need to resize the partition because of after the fba I need to install
some software on the system that requires a bigger amount of disk memory
during the installation phase; once installed it is possible to resize the
partition.

Do you know why is it not possible to copy from a DOM to another one the
post-fba image?

Thanks

Hello Max,
I don't use DOM but CF, so I try to guess from my experience.
The DOM transfer mode capabilities could be lower than the HD ones, FBA set
them ok for the hd device, when copied on a lower speed device
an hardware tranfer error appears.
I do FBA on the CF, then I do its image to clone on CF or HD.

Hello Raffaele,
the strange is that I have the same behaviour copying the post-fba image
from a functioning DOM and its twin (just with a littler partition size)

Thanks

Hello Max,
how do you make your copy? I suppose that both DOMs are set on the target
device, as master and slave.
Do you have system and hidden files show enabled, before copy?
Then you boot with the copied DOM and the working one removed?
I suggest to copy making a ghost image and restoring it on the target device
to the empty DOM. This works and you can resize the partition.

I make the copy starting the system using XPpro and I copy the DOM just
dragging and dropping the files from the first one to the second (the same
thing I use for the hard disks, where I find no problem).
Then I remove all the hard drive and connect just the copied DOM on the IDE
connector where its brother starts and nothing more.

I will try using some program like ghost to do this.

Thanks

ok, I tried creating a partition image with ghost and then restoring it onto
a DOM with a different image size and it works.

Just I would like to copy the image DOM2DOM like on Hard disks.

Thanks

Hello,
I'm trying to run an XPe on Disk on Module (IDE).
I have a doubt on what cluster size i have to put; and what components i have to include (NTLDR, FAT, FAT Format, ???).
Thx for your answers.

For what I experienced it depends on the software you have to add to your OS
image.

I have created an image that after FBA is about 250MB but my application
need 680MB and so I had to use a 1GB DOM.

Try compile the system on an Hard drive then once installed your application
check the occupied space.
