I would have thought that the closest point to Apocalypse would have been October 1962 when The Cuban Missile Crisis arose. That was a really scary time when the US Navy blockaded Cuba and, thankfully, the Soviet ships turned away. I was at school at the time and it was the afternoon of outside games when we were playing rugby when the confrontation was expected. We all half expected nuclear Armageddon.

And, yet it doesn't seem to feature on the chart above.
