Disappearing windows

A couple weeks ago, this started happening: When I click on a drop-down menu
and open a window, it disappears after I move the cursor out of the menu.
Same thing happens sometimes when a window is minimized in the tray - when I
click on the button to open the window, the window disappears when I move the
cursor off the button. If I right click on the button and maximize the
window, I can then move the cursor into it without it disappearing. I tried a
system restore and it didn't solve the problem. This happens in several (at
least) software applications as well as sometimes (at least) in Windows
itself.

That's a quite complicated problem, you can try and uninstall any programs
you installed around the time this started happening, or get linux (jk). If
you didn't install anything around that time (unlikely) then the best thing I
can tell you is to just reinstall windows.

BTW, I don't completely understand what is happening, if you would improve
your description it would be much easier.

OK, An example: In Quicken, when I download the info from the bank and a
screen comes up that says "go to ...." with a link button. When I click on
the button, the resulting screen comes up, but when I move the cursor off the
original button, the screen disappears (but the link button stays in the
lower tray of the original window). When I click on that button, the window
comes up but disappears when I try to move the cursor into it. The only way I
can get it to stay is to right-click on the button and "maximize" so it
covers the whole screen before moving the cursor into it.

This happens with several programs, both with windows resulting from link
buttons and from windows resulting from drop-down menus.

I haven't installed anything new recently, and tried reinstalling Quicken,
but the problem persists.
