start menu keeps disappearing

XP Pro with "Windows Classic Style" appearance and "Classic Start Menu"
view. Problem is the start menu keeps disappearing whenever I drag and drop
items around inside the menu. Cursor never leaves the 'grey' area inside the
menu, yet immediately after I release my L-click mouse button after moving
something, the entire menu disappears and if I want to move something else,
I have to go back to the 'start' button to make it reappear. This only
happens on one of my boxes and if there's a setting for this, I can't find
it.

Change the Speed of the Start Menu

Start | Run | Type: regedit | OK
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \
Name: MenuShowDelay
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 400 (0 is the fastest, 400 is default. These are all in miliseconds)
Log off, or restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the culprit was TweakUI. Enabling the
"Activation follows mouse" under the 'X-Mouse' setting was the cause of the
disappearing start menu. I guess something about the way TweakUI changes the
focus from "on clck" to "follows the mouse" caused the start menu to
disappear immediately after dragging and dropping an item.
Don't know why it behaved like this, but disabling this feature stopped
the problem.
