Disappearing Windows

I have written asking for help on this before and received some help but
cannot find my original message. So here goes again!

I'm running XP on a 1.8 GHz Laptop and I constantly lose the focus
(Disappearing Windows) of the window I want to use. So I click on an Icon,
the application starts and as
soon as I move the cursor away from the Icon the newly opened window loses
focus. If I click on the "minimised" application on the Toolbar, it usually
opens or regains focus until I move the cursor. Sometimes doing this merely
makes the window regain focus momentarily. The only way I can actually use
the window is if I use Alt+Tab to get to the application when it opens with
the cursor inside the window and If I move the cursor outside the window, or
sometimes just quickly move it towards the edge of the window, then it
closes.

I had not installed any new drivers and the "Focus" setting in Tweak UI is
correct. Since this problem started I have reinstalled my drivers and XP
(non destructive) but without luck.

Short of doing a clean reinstall is there anything I can do to resolve this.

A thread of 5 posts entitled "Focus Behavior" started on 13th Sept, 2003
answered your inquiry, I believe. Google home page > [Groups], above
textbox > [Advanced Groups Search], Rt. of textbox. Fill in the relevant
details --- starting from [Newsgroup], [Subject] and so on; not necessary
to fill all textboxes --- and press [Google Search], top Rt. Post back if
you don't see it. The Google News Messages Archives is a very powerful
resource.
