Disappearing Instal Wizard!

Hi
Can anyone help please?
All of a sudden/out of the blue I try to put in software which would
normally be an absolute doddle. Now I get a pop up message which tells me
either my Instal Setup Wizard does not work 'cos I'm in 'Safe Mode' (WHICH I
AM NOT!) or that there is a problem with it...????... the instal wizard set
up thing that is...
Any ideas anyone? 'Tis a darn nuisance.
I run a Sony Vaio which is brilliant and use XPPro which was installed with
the Vaio at purchase so I have no 'spare set up CD' and I'd rather not use
the Recovery system if poss... (I HAVE saved everything to disk like a good
girl but that takes ages)
Best wishes,

What happens if you log on to another account? Try logging on as admin and
seeing if there's a difference? We'll see if you can get this sorted...

Is this all installs? Just one program? All the time at boot?

Hi Nass! Well I've heard of some amazing techno things in my fifty++ years
but yours beats them all!!! I'd hardly finished reading your reply when,
just to be sure I got my facts right and to see the exact wording for the
error message, I was running through a check of installing some software (in
fact my Office Pro 2003 disc) - when all decided it wanted to work - AND
BRILLIANTLY!! Just to be safe though I'm saving your comments and Galen's -
who I shall write to next - and then "be covered" if it ever happens again.
In the evening whilst working I set this jolly wee Sony off on one of those
Windows Safety 'Service' thingies that are available ... it took ages but as
I was working on something else on my other laptop it didn't matter ... so,
the Service Check said all was fine and dandy too!

So! Thanks again for your time and comments and I shall indeed keep them in
mind.
Best wishes,
Pamaloon

Dear Galan,
Many thanks for all your suggestions. I've just written off to Nass who'd
also made some suggestions and, as I said in that message, ALL IS WORKING
AGAIN BEAUTIFULLY. I don't know what the problem was and just to be sure
I've run a few CDs - from the Office Pro to a Translation CD - and all is OK.
So I shall keep your message just in case the little monster comes back again!
Best wishes,
Pamaloon
