Vaio Recovery Wizard PROBLEM

P

Paul

Hi guys

Just bought my new Vaio.

Went to create a Recovery Disk with the Recovery Wizard.
All was going well until my computer encounted an error
with the DVD-R it was writing on.

So I went to re-run the Recovery Wizard & now I get this
error messege "Vaio Recovery Wizard cannot find the
recovery partition. Restart your computer".

I restarted my computer & now I recieve the same message.

I am not very happy with Sony. Especially with all the
money I have paid for my machine.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Call the Sony technical helpline...whenever I had problems with my Sony pc I
found them to be very helpful and efficient.

Also, which Sony pc do you have? I have had a few Sony's, all of mine came
with recovery cd's, you do not have to make your own recovery cd.

Aside from your problem. Should you be using a DVD? All the motherboards Ive
used will only support booting from a CD.

The error is confusing. If you invoked the Windows XP Pro Recovery
Wizard, the error should not have stated "Vaio Recovery Wizard". Did
you mistakenly start the Sony Recovery rather than restarting the XP Pro
Recovery Wizard?

Actually, if you intended to use the Windows XP Pro Recovery Wizard, you
would have been unable to do a restoration since your Sony did not
include a normal Windows XP Pro installation CD which is required for
the restoration. The only restoration that can be done with the Vaio is
a restoration using the Sony recovery CD set to the originally supplied
computer configuration. All of your personal data, software, and
settings would be lost. The Sony restoration makes the system just like
it was out of the box.

Hi Paul,

I found this thread while searching for information regarding my
failed attempt creating recovery discs with VAIO Recovery Wizard.

The option I picked was using CDs. The creation process stopped with
an error on the 6th disc. The only way to create them again is to
restart the whole process all over. There is no way to resume. So I
have to find another way to create the rest of the discs.

I found out that Sony uses a hidden partition (no drive letter
assigned) on the hard drive to hold all the recovery files and images.
You can see it by right click on "My Computer" and pick "Managee".
Choose "Disk Management" to see the partitions on your hard drive. You
should see one partition with no driver letter assigned. If that
partition is not there or already assigned a drive letter, then you
won't be able to create recovery discs.

Now, run "VAIO Recovery Wizard", select the option to create recovery
discs, and click "Next". Switch back to "Computer Management", and
right click on "Disk Management" to pick "Refresh" and/or "Rescan
Disks" to see what drive letter is assigned to that partition.

While still in "Computer Management", right click on that partition
and choose "Open" to see the content of that partition. That lets you
to verify whether your recovery partition is still intact.
