disappearing icons

I need help. After installing SBC Yahoo DSL software onto my computer and I
get to the final stage of the installation process, which is to restart my
computer. After I restart my computer, I have no icons, no start menu, no
anything on my desktop. If any one could help me with this problem it would
be greatly appreaciated.

Does that bring up your desktop?
If so then reboot right from there - and that's often the trick. If

I've had same problem with icons and taskbar/start menu today.

Restart in Safe Mode with a command prompt and type
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe at command prompt and press enter.

Set a new restore point ( i only had to go back one day) and hopefully when
you restart everything should be back to normal.
