Disable the window update of IE7

Hello group
In my old computer the window update just recently finished the
automatic downloading of the Internet explorer 7(which I did not
realize that the update was about it) and it is urging me to install
it . I am already happy with internet explorer 6and I have no need
for the IE7 therefore is there a way to disable this toolbar that is
pesky, that every time I boot up this PC this reminder will not come
up anymore.?
BtW
Why is MSwindows forcing users to update to IE7 when this product had
notorious reputation in the past ? What are the advantage of IE7
compared to its predecessors.? Were the bugs been sorted out already.
Thanks for your informative reply

If Automatic Updates* has already downloaded IE7 (which sounds like is the
case):

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Go to Windows Update website > Select CUSTOM and allow the scan to
complete > Uncheck/deselect IE7 and hide it ("Don't show me this update
again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

===================

*Please understand that Automatic Updates has configuration options besides
"Automatically download and install updates". See
