IE7 crash with windows updates

Hi - I'm new to newsgroups so forgive any wrong postings please!

I run Windows XP professional SP2 and IE7 on a Dell Dimension 9150 at home
and have auto updates on, run SpyBot and AVG anti virus and ZoneAlarms (free)
on a broadband phone connection

A couple of weeks or so ago IE7 started to freeze and then would not load
without a reboot but froze again on first opening.

I uninstalled IE7, ran anti-virus/spyware etc. all in safe mode. After
reinstalling IE7 It was OK until I reinstalled windows updates, then it would
freeze again. I tried 're-setting' IE7 but no difference.

I uninstalled IE7 again and am now running IE6 with all auto updates and
have no problems. I would prefer to be using IE7 - any ideas about how to
deal with this problem?

Hello,

Try running IE7 without add-ons.

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Internet Explorer 7 (No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons. Try using the
browser and see if problems arise.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE7, go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
and disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

The "File Download – Security Warning" dialog box opens when you try to open
Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937409

The default location in WinXP is typically C:\Documents and
Settings\[Username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. Change the
location of your TIF folder back to the default*, reinstall 931768 if you've
uninstalled it, and all should be well.

*Some have observed that changing the location to any other location
corrects the problem, which suggests that the real cause of the behavior is
incorrect Permissions.
