Is there a way to disable the "Do you want to save the changes....." prompt
when exiting a Word 2003 document?

Technically there is a way, using a macro. But before I pass you the pistol,
why do you want to shoot yourself in the foot?

Thanks Jay, but I was looking for a reg setting. I've seen how it's done
using a macro and/or VB scripting, but I have a 3rd party app that is pausing
everytime it tries to load a Word or Excel file.

I was hoping that this reg fix would stop this from happening.
 
Sorry, I don't know of any such registry entry, and I doubt there is one.

I'm a bit curious about the inconsistency, though... The "Do you want to save
changes" prompt appears when you *close* a document that's been altered, not
when you *open* one.
