Disable media keys on keyboard?

We've got an HP M7330N at home.. it has Windows Media Center.

The keyboard drives me crazy with it's buttons... actually my Girlfriend
drives me crazy with the way she uses the buttons. She uses the keyboard to
turn the volume up and down (which access windows sound from control panel
to turn master volume).. so with keyboard she has it all the way down and
then she turns the speakers themselves up loud. This causes them to always
have a slight hiss of silence. I have to fix this every day when I get home.
Man does that drive me crazy!

I tried removing kbd.exe from my registry/msconfig so it doesn't run, but
still those darn buttons work.

I'd buy another keyboard, but don't have cash right now.

pieces? You come up with the most trite answers to some serious questions

Go to Control Panel, you should have "Keyboard" on the list. Click on it and
somewhere there should be places to turn keyboard buttons on/off or
re-assign them. I don't know what your OS looks like but you will have that
capability somewhere in your hardware options.

But it is patently obvious that I am at least 5 grades above you.

I am looking at it right in front of me -- Control Panel/Keyboard. You are
out of touch with reality and have a grandiose opinion of your
knowledgeability. I have seen your posts, many examples-- stop replying to
questions with your limited knowledge that you present as authoritative.
People may take you seriously and pay dearly for it.

Thanks. I'll probably pick up a cheap keyboard next week. Maybe I'll spend
an extra $10 bucks or something and pick up a lighted keyboard for the dark.

I have searched the web a bit at work, but found no real answer.. I see a
few other people with the same problem on an HP machine.

If it were me I would never buy HP.. I build my own, but this is all I have
for now. I understand other companies have media keys also, but the sheer
amount of crap HP loads onto the machine is crazy. If I ever have to format
and reinstall fresh the amount of stuff I don't want takes me about 30+
minutes to get rid of.

All you really have to do is a few steps to change your keyboard buttons. I
have an HP also and will give you step-by-step instructions if you want.
These HP keyboards are enhanced keyboards and can be very cool if you know
how to set them up -- better than a cheap one that's for sure.
