Team Viewer is great.
It has an automatic mode, which doesn't require the host compu ter
operator to agree to be controlled remotedly. Since I'm the operator
of both computers, that works out fine. I don't have to go to the
basemen4t to do more than turn the basement computer on.
Yes, it doesn't work well with video. At least not with my low-speed
dsl connection. I tried 3 randon non-cartoon videos from youtube and
when I had View/Quality set at optimize speed, the color was not even
VGA. It was like color by number. When I put it at optimize quality,
the color was very good, gut the action was separate frames, very
patchy.
But for text and still pictures, so far it 's very good. I'm in bed
two floors up and everything works, except it does take a quarterf
second for a typed characterr to show up on my screen. But I just
keep typing and eventually they all show up.
MY big delay in posting this was that I couldn't find my bag of spare
mice, so I had to swipe the one from the basement computer. I
decided I didn't like the mouse I had been using with the netbook.
I'm also using an ext ernal keyboard, which is good because sitting on
the bed, I would have a lot of trouble using the int ernal one, and I
don't know it by heart or habit, like a standard keyboard.
On this my first time, the mouse took 30 seconds or more to start
working. I don't know why.
And the "window" in the middle, that disappears to t he right, except
for a little tab, when I clicked on that tabe, wouldn't move for
another couple minut es, I don't know why Well maybe because I was
clicking on the bottom half of the tab, notthe top half. This session
the box and its tab are almost black, so I couldn't see where to click
(or what the box says.)
I haven't connecteed a headphone or anythin just the netbook internal
speakers, and I'm also watching tv, so I haven't heard any sounds the
netbook might have made.
I t has the ability to pass through two-key commands like cntl-tab,
alt-tab etc. if one tics Accept key combinations. And ways to send
cntl-alt-delete, and to reboot.
If one goes to full screen mode, it blacks out the background, the
other tasks on the netbook and the taskbar. Because the netwook has
a wide aspect ratio, that leaves a vertical black bar on the side but
everything else on this Acer netbook is very readable, even 2 feet
from the screen.
I can see that it has loads of ot her capailities, like chaitting
between the two people, when a phone call is expensive etc.
I also have two friends who have needed techenical help It has gotten
tiresome with one to try to direct her over the phone. Since I told
her I wouldn't keep coming over and she'd have to use Remote Keyboard
with me, she hasn't asked for help! Two or three years now. I
can't believe she doesn't trust me after 15 years, but I guess she
thinks someone else will find their way in if she turns RK or Team
Viewrer on.
The other friend is very suspicious too, and has a son who lives 30
miles away, who might be a better tech than i am but he has a wife
and 3 children and other responsibilities. I haven't given her the
teamviewer lecture yet. We'll see if she'll accept it.
I wouldn't insist they leave their computer on automatic, although
Idon't know yet how to do it the other way. I think I can send
inviations from Team Viiwer that will include instructions.
Thanks all who told me about this.
