Directx won't install

I try to install directx 8.1- it says 'Installation
Complete' but my setup program does not recognise that
directx 8.1 is installed. I have tried upgrading it to
9.0b but still no luck. Any suggestions?

You can try this Utility. DirectX Eradicator. Uninstall DX and start
over.
