Some time ago I posted an issue regarding SirectX9 and
incompatability in installing a TV Tuner/FM Radio PCI
plug in card (Medion MD 5044 based on Phillips 7134
Chipset). I questioned whether a utility existed ro
remove DirectX 9 and re-install DirectX 8.1
Accepting that DirectX is an extension to the Microsoft
Windows operating system that provides a set of fast, low-
level hardware controls that programmers can use to
increase performance for Windows games and multimedia
programs and cannot (?) be removed, suggestions were
offered i.e DirectX Buster and Direct X Eradicator. I
must stress that these suggestions were offered as "use
at own risk" The alternative was to re-install XP from
CD. The issue I had in this method was that I like to
keep PC updated. Re-installing would mean complete
download of all critical and Windows updates - a large
number and long time!
I decided to use a uitility option as if it went wrong
I'd more than likely have to re-install anway.
I used DirectX Eradicator as indicates supports for XP.
Outcome.......
For others looking for same route, don't bother it
doesn't work despite what some "reviews" say - at least
for me it didn't
My final thought on the whole issue is why didn't
Microsoft make this a "ro1lback" program. On upgrading
from 8 to 9 if installed hardware went awry, rolling back
would reset the status quo, giving time for manufacturers
to update and supply sustainable drivers
Regards
Tom
PS If anyone knows of a utility that is 100% tried,
tested and guaranteed to work in removing DirectX 9 let
me know. I've three networked PC's (4th on way)
currently running DirectX 9 and a Tuner card I can't
use. I don't want to re-install and update all over
again just to make it work.
