changing directx

I got the idea ysterday to erase all my directx 9c files and install my
direct 10 runtime instead of installing over them. To see what would happen.
It wasn't pretty. Is XP designed so that a component such as directx can't
be removed such as deleting files and registry entries? It seems that way. I
guess I'll just have to install over and hope these no old files from 9c
left over just taking up space.

Part of the problem is that 10 wasn't designed for XP; it was for Vista.
