I seem to have a major problem with DirectX 9c installed on XP Pro with SP2.
DirectX diagnostic tool is reporting that all the files are there and are ok
but under the display tab direct draw, direct 3d and agp texture are all
being reported as unavailable. I have tried to reinstall DirectX from both
the web updater and from a full install, but both ways report that DirectX 9c
is fully installed and OK.

I have a Norton Ghost image from when i installed SP2 and when i load that
on to a hard disk i can see DirectX 9c is working fine with all options under
the display tab being available, so i am guessing that somewhere between Sp2
and now it has got corrupted. Any help would be great, i dont know what else
to try and i really dont want to have to reinstall all my software and data
again... also worried that if i do that i may end up in the same situation
again!

do in the dxdiag.exe, at the display tab, there is no button to click on the
enable any of those items. that would indicate that your video board has
had its 3d stuff turned off.

Bring up the video display - settings - advanced settings and look for
hardware acceleration and make sure it is at maximum and enabled. In that
same area, make sure that the monitor type is not 'unknown" or "default"
Should either be plug and play or actually have the name of the monitor. If
you have a tab for agp make sure the level is not 0 . ATI has a "retest"
button to test agp. They also have a "VPU recover" tab to enable the video
board to be reset (automatically) following an error. You might poke around
and see if you can find what happened.

you might want to bring up system restores and look for what might have been
installed since that ghost image was taken.
START-ACCESSORIES-SYSTEM-SYSTEMRESTORE start at the date of the ghost image
and look at each install and see if you can spot something. I would also
suggest re-installing the video driver as recommended by the manufacturer.
I know of two cases where downloading a driver from the microsoft update
caused a newer and better driver to get uninstalled and bad things then
happened.

Did you recently install a tv tuner? Install an adapter board that was
adjacent to the agp board? I had a hauppenaug tv tuner that had to be moved
to a different slot because it or the video board was not properly sharing
interrupts. The symptom was a really bad display, not just losing 3d stuff.
