Direct X 9C missing file d3dx9_33.dll

Harold A. Climer

I am having trouble using Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 (Easy DVD and
Video Wave) with Windows XP MCE with SP3 installed.
I keep getting an error message that the following file is missing.
d3dx9_33.dll
It is supposed to be installed by DirectX 9C but I can not find it
anywhere on my hard drive.
I have tried all the suggestions from the Roxio Web site:
1.Clean Install of the EMC10
2.Re-Install DirectX 9C
3.Turn off Video Hardware acceleration( then EMC 10 says I do not have
enough resources to run the program)
but nothing works.
Any idea as to what is going on?
Where can a get this file and where should it be located on my hard
drive?
I have a Radeon X1300 graphics Card.

I have not found anything else on this topic at the Roxio site, so I
am trying here.
Any help would be most appreciated.

"d3dx9_33.dll was not found"

Issue

When launching MyDVD or VideoWave, you receive an error message:

The application failed to start because d3dx9_33.dll was not found"

They suggest installing the DirectX 9 included on the Roxio CD.

I did not get EMC 10 on a CD. It was a download.

What if you appealed to Roxio support. Could they
send you a CD with the retail contents of what
you thought you've purchased ? (Working software.)

Barring that, they probably have a copy of the version
of DirectX that has that file. They can email it to
you :) After all, it was their idea to place a
dependency on an obsolete file.

There are too many versions of DirectX, to download
all of them, looking for that file. This is just a few.
Notice how the release number remains the same, while the
file size keeps changing. I haven't a clue what is
really going on here.

DirectX 9.0c (June 2007) (54 MB) (01 June, 2007)
DirectX 9.0c (June 2006) (53 MB) (01 June, 2006)
DirectX 9.0c (Feb 2007) (45 MB) (01 February, 2007)
DirectX 9.0c (Feb 2006) (50 MB) (01 February, 2006)
DirectX 9.0c (Dec 2005) (47 MB) (01 December, 2005)
DirectX 9.0c (Aug 2007) (59 MB) (01 August, 2007)
DirectX 9.0c (Apr 2007) (49 MB) (01 April, 2007)
DirectX 9.0c (Apr 2006) (53 MB) (01 April, 2006)

I have WinXP SP3, and it comes with some version of
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.000.0904). At one point in time,
I tried to download one of the packages of the type
above. I ran it, and compared the files placed on my
system. There was "cruft" from years ago, that got
added on top of SP3. (In other words, some of the
files it added, appeared to be obsolete.) I used a
restore point at the time, to back out. It's funny
that the DirectX that came with SP3, was "cleaner"
than the baloney they serve up for downloads separately.

The only reason I was researching DirectX at the time,
was someone was having problems with the download,
and so I tried to install it on my system. The
DirectX that came with SP3, has served me well,
so I currently have no incentive to change it.

Good luck,
Paul

I found another source of the d3dx9_33.dll . It is in
a 3D game demo download - 1.4 Gigabyte download :)

http://www.gamershell.com/download_21400.shtml

It would appear from the listing, that the APR2007_d3dx9_33_x86.cab
file is the source. I uses 7ZIP to open up the download, without
having to install the game.

This is the kind of download you'd try at work, using
the company broadband :) If the IT department asks
you what you're doing, you can tell them you're downloading
a 1.4GB file, to get a DirectX installer. This DirectX
folder is used by the game, to install a compatible version
of DirectX.
