I recently upgraded to windows XP professional and everything seemed to work fine except the direct x version was reset to 5.0. I tryed to upgrade to 9.0b but when i go to install, i get an error that says this directx version is not compatible with my current version of windows. I checked the system requirements and they 'say' that directx 9.0b supports Windows XP professional. Can someone help me with this???? I need 9.0 to run half my programs and i dont hav time to fool around with this. Help would be appreciated.

winXp has direct x *.1 or 8.0 in it default so the direct version on your system being 5 is weir
try installing 8.0 or 8.
else try installing directx thru windows update
if all this doesn't work then most probably u will have to install winXP again

Had the same problem. Microsoft's answer was to install SP1 for XP Pro. They
were giving it away for free on the Security Update CD, on their web site.
