DirectX 9.0 Security Update fails

Installation of Security Update for DirectX 9.0 (KB839643)
fails with message:
'Setup cannot continue because one or more pre-requisites
required to install KB839643 failed. For More details
check the Log File H:\WINDOWS\KB839643.log'

DirectX9.0 was installed (today) from redistributable
download dx90update_redist.exe

The log (Windows\KB839643.log) contains:

My question is: What do I have to do to get this Security
Update to work? Windows Update is telling me I need it.
