Direct X 9.0 Installation

I am trying to select a screensaver that I've successfully used before but
now I am getting a window that reads YOU DO NOT HAVE MS DirectX 9.0 OR HIGHER
INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER. IN ORDER TO USE THIS SCREENSAVER YOU NEED TO
INSTALL MS DirectX 9.0. I've downloaded DirectX 9.0 from the Microsoft site
and upon attempting to install I accept the agreement and click install and
immediately get a window that reads INSTALL COMPLETE. COMPONENTS INSTALLED
ARE NOW READY FOR USE. There is no typical installation process that runs.
But when I attempt to start the screensaver I get the same window again
saying that DirectX is not installed on my computer. Am I doing something
wrong ? I've spent the last 4 days online with HP trying to get this figured
out and they can't help me.
 
Uninstalling and reinstalling the screen saver may do the trick for you?
