Folks, I am having a wierd problem on Home Edition Windows XP. Currently my
DirectX is set to some 8.X version and I am trying to update it to some
better then 9.0, I went to Microsoft website and downloaded the latest
version and Installation is showing as completed sucessfully but still when I
try to check the version of DirectX it is coming back as 8.X. Does any one
know why this is happening (is this an known issue?) Is there a way to
forcefully install the latest version of DirectX? Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

1st,if you run SP2,Direct X is already at 9.0 version.2nd go to downloads or
search type:893803 Install installer v3.1 Reboot if needed, then having
youre
Direct X on desktop,go to run, type:services.msc In msc scroll to
installer,double
click, select, auto start then start service, close out msc.Now try youre
Direct X
update.
