Direct X error

I'm trying to install Civilization IV on my computer when i get an error
message. The message says " the product hasn't passed the windows logo test
the installation will be cancelled."

I then went to microsoft.com and tried to Download the DirectX 9.0 Software
Development Kit Update and i got the same error message

"has not passed windows logo test"

how do i install this direct X on my computer so i can play my game?

none of those seem to work. the program ..... well Civilization III use to
work on my computer also ... but i can't install it either. I've never
gotten this Direct X error before and now I'm getting it.

why am i still getting the error message?

Did you perform all the steps in the resolution information?
Is your Cryptographic Services set to automatic?
Did you register all the .dll's?

I've gone through the link you've supplied me with below. The game actually
installed without ANY error messages. But once i attempt to play the game
before it finishes loading it says "failed to initialize renderer - check
direct x version and graphic settings." then it closes the program.

what does that mean???

I've downloaded teh direct x 9.0 .... am i missing something?

According to everything I've read, this is a video card issue.

Might try sliding down the acceleration down on your adapter, I have my doubts that
this will work.
Control panel, display folder, settings tab, advanced button, troubleshoot.

One of the forum posters suggested ATI has a patch. Might check that out.
