Direct Access Component - A Part of Windows?

J

Jim

I receive the following error message every time I reboot:
Direct Access Component has encountered a problem and needs to close

It asks if I want to tell microsoft about it, so I'm supposing
it's a windows component. Just wondering what problems, other
than the error message, this might cause me. None seem evident.

I had this problem for months and then it disappeared, perhaps after
SP2 or after running the system file checker - I don't recall which.
If it ought to be fixed, what's the best way to fix it.

The other day it did not come on right away, but about 5 minutes
after the computer came up i heard some noise from the floppy
drive, which was empty, and the error message popped up.

TIA
Jim

I suppose my guess would be based on how gun-shy we must be about spyware, and virus problems now, but I would look in add/remove
app to see if Internet Information Server (IIS) was installed on your system without your knowledge. (XP Pro edition only)
Uninstalling it would stop the error, if my guess is close to the mark.

Next I would scan my system for virus and backdoor agents of any kind.
