I have a second hard drive purchased for the express purpose of vacking up my
primary drive. I have been unable to locate specific information on exactly
how to backup my hard drive files automatically on a daily or weekly basis.
How can I backup all of my documents and settings in this fashion?

Look at third-party backup programs such as BackUpMyPC from StompSoft:

There's no need to purchase a third-party program to do this if you
don't want to. NTBackup, included in XP (it's in the VALUEADD folder
in Home, installed by default in Pro) works just fine for this. That,
combined with task scheduler, will work just fine and for no
additional cost.
