I am using a DSL connection with Windows XP.
Problem: A dialup icon pops on a frequent basis. The DSL line is still on.
During the icon popup, the notice may state, Do you want to connect ?

Try this:

Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections. In
the middle section, select "Never dial a connection" and then choose Apply
and then OK.

If you're not using a router, you will need to manually connect for the
online session to begin.
