Of course, 'home routers' are connected even when the comps are off.
But, There are DSL modems built into comps. Or, USB DSL modems, that
disconnect when the comp is off. And connect up via computer software
or via windows.
I'm referring to the case of, a USB DSL modem. In Win XP, to connect,
You go to "network connections" and you double click the icon to
connect. It uses a username/password but no telephone number. since
it's not 'dial up', even though the Windows GUI makes it look like it
is dialup.
I found one way to connect automatically, but it opens a command
prompt. It's not pretty.
rasdial.exe xxx "username" "password" <-- where xxx is the name of
the connection icon.
But, i'm sure some people with these USB modems manage to connect
automatically when they get into windows. How is it possible?
I don't want to use any 3rd party software that comes with the usb
modem. It should all be possible within windows.
I know that IE and OE can be set to bring up the connection screen
automatically. But, perhaps other browsers or email clients don't.
Besides. I know I can cilck the icon to connect. But, I'd rather it be
automatic when going into windows.
thanks
