There was a thunder storm during the night. My computer was off and I
unplugged all electric cables from the wall before the storm but
didn't know that I should unplug the telephone cable also!

The next morning I noticed that something was wrong with the phone(not
the line, the device) and also I could not connect online!
When I switch router Kasda on, DSL light is on, but no LAN light. So,
I've been told that this means that wan connection/signal is detected
but there is no lan connection, between computer and router.

Even if I ignore the obvious sign that I can't connect online (no LAN
when I turn on the router) and still try to click 'Connect DSL' icon
on my desktop, it gives me back 678 error.

I've borrowed my friends router(the same type, Kasda) and connected it
on the computer but symptoms r same, dsl light on, lan off. I thought
that maybe splitter got fried through telephone wire, got a new
splitter, still the same!!!!

NOW, as recommended, I did PINGing stuff, [with my slow (data fax
modem)connection on]:

Have you tried swapping out the network adapter for a known good working
adapter?
In Device Manager are there any devices showing any conflicts or issues?
Is the modem/router/adapter connected through the phone line? If yes, does
the phone work? If no, have you tried a known good working phone
cord/cable?

Go straight to Test Connectivity if your PC/adapter is configured with a
Static IP.

Right click My Network Places on the Desktop.
Click Properties.
Right click Local Area Connection.
Click Properties.

Under "This connection uses....."
Click "Client for MS Networks".
Click Properties.
Select "Windows Locator" from the dropdown box, if disabled skip.
Click Ok.

Scroll to and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click Properties.

Under the General tab make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is
selected.
Click the Advanced button.

Under the DNS tab:
Selected "Append Primary and Parent DNS suffixes.
Register this connections address in DNS"

Under the WINS tab > NetBIOS:
Selected Default.
Ok out of MNP.
Reboot if required.

Test connectivity:
Open a command prompt, click Start > Run, type in: cmd and press Enter.
At the prompt type each command below and press Enter after each.
**Note: Space denoted by ^. Do not type the ^.

ping ^ 192.168.1.1 *Routers IP, change as necessary.
If it times out then there is no communication between the router and
machine.
If it doesn't time out then the machine has communication with the router.

ping ^ google.com
If it times out then there is no connection to the net.
If it doesn't time out then net connection is established and all is well.

ping ^ 127.0.0.1
If it fails it may be a TCP/IP stack problem.

Ping each computer from the other using the UNC:
ping ^ computername
If it fails either way there's an IP or Name resolution problem.

If pinging times out on any address, check if the machines IP is correct
along with other settings.
ipconfig ^ /all
If anything isn't correct, at the prompt type and press Enter after each
command:

ipconfig ^ /release
ipconfig ^ /flushdns
ipconfig ^ /renew
ipconfig ^ /registerdns
exit
If that fails reopen the command prompt, run /release and /flushdns only and
exit.

Shut down the machine(s).
Pull the power from the router.
Pull the power from the modem.
Wait approx 30 secs.
Apply power to the modem and wait for it to finish synchronizing with the
cable.
Apply power to the router and wait for it to finish synchronizing with the
modem.
Power up the machine(s).
The machine(s) should now be assigned a new IP from the router.
Run ipconfig or attempt net connection to test.

No, an ethernet or NIC adapter/card are not the same as a router.
Ethernet and NIC adapters/cards are internal devices either included on the
motherboard or an installed PCI add-on card.
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCate...=27&Category=281&name=Network-Interface-Cards
A router is an external hardware device which allows a user with a single
internet access IP provided by their ISP to connect more than 1 PC to the
internet.
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=28&Category=281&name=Wired-Routers
In Device Manager are there any devices showing any conflicts or

Ok.

Is the modem/router/adapter connected through the phone line? If yes,

Phone works.

I take it the phone line is connected to the modem/adapter. If correct,
disconnect the line from the phone and connect it directly to the
modem/adapter and test connection. If not correct, please provide exactly
what devices/components are used and how they are connected for your
internet access.
Go straight to Test Connectivity if your PC/adapter is configured
with a
Static IP.
I think that I have dinamic IP, each time I go online, it changes.

It may be a Dynamic IP supplied by your ISP, yet from what I see in your
ipconfig screenshot that DHCP is disabled. That leads me to believe your PC
network properties are not configured to "Obtain an IP automatically" and if
that is correct then it is configured to use a Static IP.
Follow all of the instructions provided in my previous response check your
network properties setup and testing your connection.

If after completing the above and you still have no connectivity, double
check your dial-up connection properties to make sure they are in order and
properly configured. If all appears to be in order try settin up a new
connection using the New Connection Wizard. If still no joy contact your
ISP.

What could be the problem?

The problem is likely damage to parts of your phone system or cabling,
possibly parts that are maintained by your phone company, on the pole or in
the nearest junction.

You should contact their service staff, particularly if you don't get a dial
tone. I find that is one of the things that will get them out to check and
fix, the fastest.

What could be the problem?

IPCONFIG for the network adapter says that its media is disconnected, ie
that there is no cable connection between it and the router, or that the
router is powered OFF.

If you are using a router, why is there an entry for a PPP adapter? You
would use that if you didn't have a router, for login to the DSL network;
the router should be taking care of that, and the two will conflict.

Is this IPCONFIG result after attempting to log in via dial-up?

Get a friend with a working laptop to come over, so you can check the LAN
and phone hardware with a known-good PC. This will tell you on which end
of the wire the problem lives.

It is definitely possible for a spike on the phone line, especially caused
by lightning, to traverse any connected cabling. Lightning has already
passed through a mile or more of open air, and a few inches of silicone and
copper won't slow it down at all. You might want to open the PC case and
check for burnmarks - and pay attention to your nose as you open the case.

Question! Is it possible that only usb port where I plug in utp cable
from router is damaged?
I truly hope that network card/adapter isn't fried... cuz it's
integrated in motherboard, that would mean that I have to replace the
whole thing. :(
