DHCP timeout/retry

Is there a way to increase the timeout interval or set retries for
DHCPDiscover attempts before APIPA takes over. I tried disabling APIPA but
that just results in a
0.0.0.0 address instead of a 169.254.n.n. This is for laptops failing to get
IP addresses on bootup from a wireless broadband router.

John,

there is no need to increase the timeout. This is a defect.

First thing I'd try is to update the wireless router's firmware
to a new version. Then update the wireless adapters' drivers
likewise.
