Disabling DHCP in Win Xp

When i connected my laptop in a network ,not using DHCP,
it is taking the IP address from the range of APIPA.
How can i disable DHCP in a laptop with windows xp as an
operating system.

network properties for your NIC > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP > Properties >
unselect Obtain an IP address automatically
