After moving my network adapter to a different PCI slot,
now there's a "#2" displayed in the device name. Is
there anyway to get rid of the "#2"?

If you deem that it's worth the trouble, open an empty .txt file in
Notepad and paste...

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
cd\ %SystemRoot% \System32
start devmgmt.msc

Save it as SHOW_DEVICES.BAT

Double-click that file and click VIEW menu|SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES.
Deleting all instances of that network adapter, and allowing XP to detect
and reinstall it on next boot may resolve your concern. Then again, it
may not.
