desperate for help with gamepad

I have tried everything I know, but I am having no luck
at all trying to connect a USB gamepad. I am on my 3rd
one, and I am getting tired of returning hardware that
says clearly on the package, "compatable with Windows
XP!". I have tried a Logitech, a Gemini, and now a Game
Elements, all which claim compatibility with XP. The
problem is not my USB because I have a USB mouse and PDA
dock. 2 of the 3 gamepads are on the "Microsoft XP
Hardware Compatability List". I have tried installing
each gamepad's respective software the convential way,
through the hardware wizard, through the driver update in
the device manager... nothing works. I am talking about
a dual-analog joystick 10 button gamepad, exactly the
same as the Playstation 2 has. Is this too dificult a
request from XP? Has anyone else had the same problem?
Do I have any options? Does anyone else have the same
type of gamepad as I am looking for and succesfully
operate it on XP? Anyone who has pity on me and would
like to help, I would be eternally grateful to. Thanks
in advance.

Hi Jayson,
I can probably help but I need more detail about why you are having no
luck. Does the device show up in the Gaming Options control panel? Does it
show up in Device Manager? Is there any yellow "bang" marks on the device in
Device Manager? What kind of USB chipset does the controller have that you
are connecting to? Can you send me or post a Dxdiag report of your system
while a device is connected? Please be as specific as you can. Often it is
the little details that can make a difference.

Dxdiag:
Click Start -> Run
Type dxdiag in the Run box and hit Enter
When the DX Diagnostic tool loads click "Save All Information..." button.
Save the output and post it here.

Thank you very much for your reply, I really appreciate
the help. Well, my gamepads wont show up in the game
controllers panel, and in the device manager it shows up
as an unknown device under the USB section. I have tried
to update or reinstall the drivers for each controller
and Windows claims it cant find any drivers that will
work. There is no problem info bullet next to the
unknown device either. It just seems very strange that
none of these controllers will work, even when they are
listed on the hardware compatability list. That would
make me think that it might be a problem with the
motherboard recognizing the hardware. But, mouse is USB
and it works fine so that is where my understanding of
Windows and external hardware abruptly ends. I will
email you a dxdiag report and a system info report, and
again thatk you very much your help.
