I have a square on my desktop that I am having troubles getting rid of.
If I disconnect from the Internet it is an outlined square.
I can refresh the desktop, it will go away, but come back after a short
time.
While connected, it is always there - a white 2" square.
Virus scans show nothing.

I am hoping to look in the desktop folder and find someething that is out of
place.
But do not know where to find it.
Can anyone tell me?

Thanks,
Tim

Have you added some web content to your desktop? Right click on a blank
area of the desktop and select Properties. This will bring up your Display
Properties. Go to the Desktop tab and click the Customize Desktop button.
This will bring up the Desktop Items property dialog. Go to the Web tab and
look at any content that you might have added from the web to your desktop.

Registry fix-Automated :
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/wallpaperenable.reg

Manually :
1.Open Regedit
2. Click
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
3. There will be a value named "NoChangingWallpaper" > Set it to 0
4. Click
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
5. Repeat Step 3

If you have XP Pro :
1.Start > Run > gpedit.msc
2.Under User configuration > Click [Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display\]
3. There will be value named "Prevent changing wallpaper" > Set it to "Not
Configured"
