Two white squares on desktop icons??

I cant figure out why my desktop icons have two little white squares in them.
The typical one is in the bottom left corner of each icon and has a little
arrow in it indicating that it is a shortcut. The "abnormal" white square is
in the top right of each icon and is empty of any arrow, but you can click
on the "abnormal" white square and put a check mark in each. Also, normally
you have to double click a desktop shortcut, but on mine, you only have to
single click them to fire the program. What is up? How do I change these
icons back to being "typical"? Thanks for the help....

I don't know where your second white square is coming from. There is
nothing in XP like this that I know of. Since there is interaction with the
square -interaction that wouldn't be there if it was a corrupt image - it
sounds like it is something added by a program you have installed.

For the single click vs double click, open Folder Options to the General
page and move the radio dot from Single Click to Double Click.
