White square visible only when desktop is displayed

Hoping you can help. Recently a 1/4" square white spot appeared in the
display of the desktop. I can drag it with the mouse to make it a 1" by 1/2"
rectangle. It is only visible when the desktop is displayed. I would expect
(?) that if it is a pixel problem, I would see the spot all the time.

I changed the settings of the display, which enlarged and shifted the
location of all of the icons. The white spot shifted as well. But when I
deleted desktop items, the white spot stayed in the same place. Because it
only appears on the desktop, I'm thinking it's a problem with the desktop,
not the LCD display. Thanks in advance.

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these, Apply/OK out. Does that fix the issue?
