Desktop not opening URL

Am unable to open any URL from the desktop..except IE. I can go to the URL
from the address bar in IE but Windows cannot connect directly from the
desktop, as if it does not recognise it as an address, rather sees it as a
file name.

Any ideas??
 
Hi Garfield,

Open Internet Explorer
Click Tools, Internet Options, Programs tab
Click "Reset Web Settings"
Close the dialog (and IE window)

Type this in Start/Run:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
