IE 7 -Desktop shortcuts wont work

WinXP-sp3 and IE7

IE links open fine from outlook express. And favorites work when IE is
open. But any shortcuts saved to desktop result in IR opening but
immediately showing the dialog box that says IE has encountered a problem
and needs to close. I click ok and it closes. If I open IE then drag that
same shortcut onto it, it brings up the webpage just fine.

Any way to fix this?

HI,
1. Is IE7 the default browser? Check that at Control Panel> Add or remove
programs> Set program access and defaults.

2. Start Internet Explorer without add-ons from:
Right-click the IE icon on the desktop. Choose Start without add-ons.
or
Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
If the problem goes away, you have an incompatible browser add-on installed.
