XP will not open URL from Desktop

Have suddenly discovered that I cannot go to a web address from my desktop..
message comes up "windows cannot find <address>. Make sure path you typed id
correct etc..

I am able to go to URL's from address bar in IE but not from desktop... any
ideas??

Open run,type in the url then run it.

I am unable to open ANY URL from the desktop... I am able to open once in IE
but a link on the desktop does not recognise it as a URL or something
similar.. any ideas?

Hi Garfield,

Open Internet Explorer
Click Tools, Internet Options, Programs tab
Click "Reset Web Settings"
Close the dialog (and IE window)

Type this in Start/Run:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
