Deleting pics from Olympus xd picturecard

I have an Olympus SP-350 with Olympus xd picture card, a Nikon 8400 with a
Compactflash card, and an Olympus 400 with a Fuji picture card. When I
transfer pictures using the Scanner & Camera Wizard, I always select the
'Delete pictures after transfer' option, which works fine on the
Compactflash and Fuji cards, but on
the Olympus the deleting is unsuccessful. The PC freezes, and I have had to
restart
my PC using the reset button, and the SP-350 insists on formatting the card
when I
reinsert it. This has happened 3 times with the Olympus xd card, but I
cannot find
any reason for the wizard's failure to handle the picture deletion option.
All the
downloads are done using a Dazzle USB 2.0 all-in-one reader/writer.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems with an Olympus xd card? The
Olympus help desk have not been able to suggest anything, so I am stuck. Any
help would be very welcome.

I would suggest formating the
card from within the camera.
