Olympus Camedia crashes XP when acessing card reader

When using Olympus Camedia Pro 4.1 to access photos on a SmartMedia card through an Olympus MAUSB-10 card reader, my system crashes. Camedia works fine if reading photo files on the hard drive, or if I use My Computer to copy photo files from the card to my hard drive and then use Camedia to read them on the hard drive. The same setup worked fine on a P-III with Win98SE but not on a P4 under XP. My current system is

P4 2.8GHz (ASUS 42302e31 Award Modular BIOS v6.0
1G RA
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X Ver. 6.14 (800 x 600 in 64K Colors)
XP Pro + SP
Olympus MAUSB-10 card reader connected through USB port

Quick fix .............

Using Windows Explorer navigate to the smart card and drag the files into a
suitable location on your hard drive.
